In a reader survey carried out by Auto Express, the 2014 Driver Power survey reveals the best car insurance companies for customer satisfaction.? The survey is based on responses from 50,000 UK motorists and reveals how these companies are faring in terms of communication, helpfulness , time it takes to settle a claim, value for money and overall service.

1. Saga (90.92% overall)
This insurance company, which specialises in policies for drivers aged 50 or over, won three categories and finished top of the survey. They have been named a Which? ‘Recommended Provider’ and received a Defaqto 5 star rating for their Comprehensive cover.
2. Royal & Sun Alliance (89.66% overall)
With a combined percentage up by 2% on its previous years results, the RSA have seen improvements in all categories. Scoring particularly well in the helpful and friendly categories, they were only outside the top four in one category. With a 300 year heritage, they are one of the worlds largest multinational insurance groups, with over 17 million customers in over 140 countries. Better known as More Than, they promise cheap car insurance, No Claims protection, breakdown cover and excellent young driver policies.
3. Frizzell (87.66% overall)
Coming first in the category for speed of claim settlement and online ordering, Frizzell claim that there 24 hour a day friendly UK call centre is committed to going the extra mile for you. Whilst this may be true, there are some areas in which Frizzell are seriously lacking. Coming in at a pathetic 20th place for keeping customers informed of their claim and ordering over the phone leaves a lot to be desired and improvements need to be made if they expect to rank as highly as this next year.
4. LV (87.5% overall)
2014 marks another impressive year for Liverpool Victoria, with a consistent top 10 position in every category. Many motorists found it hard to criticise them and with over 1000 people a day choosing to take out a policy with them it is easy to understand why they have become the UK’s most recommended car insurer. Offering car insurance from as little as ?169, multi car discount when taking out insurance on two or more cars and a five year guarantee on car repairs, it is clear to see why this insurer offers such peace of mind.
5. NFU Mutual (86.56% overall)
Coming up best in the category for best phone ordering, NFU Mutual was praised for its business like approach and product range, which includes specialist cover. However, that comes at a price and it is by no means the cheapest cover out there. an area for improvement is the speed at which they settle a claim, positioning them in the bottom few out of forty for this category.
Car insurance premiums have fallen by over 14% this year, mainly due to a much ore competitive market, however this makes finding the right insurer for you all the more difficult.
